Archimedes Math Schools is a non-profit organization
that was founded by math professors in Winnipeg who recognize the need for a low cost after-school
math program for elementary school children. All university professors who manage the program and work with the children
do so as volunteers. Our regular teachers are enthusiastic university students who are studying math-intensive
fields and are passionate about math.
We run after-school math classes for children in Grades 4, 5 and 6. All lessons are planned by university math professors, who volunteer
with the program, and are delivered by university math students.
Our goal is to provide a structured and comfortable environment where children may expand their
knowledge, improve their skills, increase their confidence
and develop an appreciation for mathematics.
The classes are intended to be an extended version of a math club that Professors Anna and Ross Stokke ran out of their home for three years.
More detailed information about our program can be found on this page
A total of 112 students attended our program during the 2014-2015 school year and 106 children attended our program in the 2012-2013 school year.
Our program has an exceptionally high retention rate.
Tuition fees for our program are set at a rate required to sustain the program and to provide bursaries based on financial need.
In addition to our regular after-school program, we successfully ran free 2-week Math
out of the University of Winnipeg's
Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre
in August, 2013 and in August, 2014. We will be running another summer camp out of Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre
in August, 2015.
We value this partnership with Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre!
